SRYA Field Hockey
We are happy to announce that South River Youth Athletics will be fielding teams for field hockey this fall 2011. If you are interested in coaching a field hockey team or are willing to help the commissioner to get this sport up and running, please contact Alex Yates, the field hockey commissioner at: fieldhockey@srya.org.
Fees are as follows:
Sticklettes: $80
Pee Wee, Middie, Junior, Senior: $110
Uniform Info:
Uniform costs for Pee Wee, Middie, Junior and Senior players is $60 (if needed). SRYA field hockey will use the same uniform as Spring 2011 Girls Lacrosse.
Additional items will be offered on an optional basis including Spunkwear spandex shorts and sports bras to be worn under the uniform. These items will also be the same as Spring 2011 Girls Lacrosse.
Practice:
Practices will start August 8th and games will start after Labor Day. Coaches will contact parents with the exact days, times and field location.
Volunteers:
Volunteers are needed to coach at all levels, we will train you. Contact Alex Yates at fieldhockey@srya.org to volunteer.
Equipment Needed:
- Regulation Field Hockey Stick
- Shin Guards
- Colored Mouth Guard
- Cleats
- Goggles (Starting with 2011-2012 Season Protective Eye wear will be mandatory for players, view the press release)
Age Groups
The following is the Field Hockey Eligibility Chart as mandated by A.A. Co. Recs & Parks.
(Girl's field hockey teams are broken down by grade level, not age)
- Sticklettes - Grades K thru 2nd
- Pee Wee - Grades 3 and 4
- Middies - Grades 5 and 6
- Juniors - Grades 7 and 8
- Seniors - Grades 9 thru 12 (cannot be on the high school team during the season)
Positions are open on all teams, especially Middie (grades 5-6) and Juniors (grades 7-8) so please register as soon as possible to help us plan a successful first season. The first Middie and Junior player to register as of July 19th will receive a
free Cran Barry stick, donated by our 2011 sponsor Cran Barry.
SRYA adheres to county rules and focuses on promoting fair play, good sportsmanship, fundamental skill, and play development.
As mandated by the county, all players will have the opportunity to enjoy at least 25% play time per game. Between the weekly practices and the games, players will have plenty of opportunity to learn more about this fast-moving sport.
