All policies set forth are guidelines for the SR Soccer Commissioner, coordinators, and coaches. The aim is to provide parents with an understanding of the soccer program. In any case, the fun and learning of the players will be taken into consideration first and foremost.
The SR Clinic programs will be an instructional. The SR Soccer Commissioner, coordinators, and coaches will try to create teams rosters of even strength for the Junior and Senior Clinic.
- Players will be assigned teams by (in order of priority):
- Teams will have players of combined relatively equal strength.
- Coaches may select up to half of their roster.
- Siblings will be placed on teams with complimentary schedules.
- Carpooling considerations (for groups of up to four players).
- Parents may request coach or teammates.
- Senior Clinic coaches will "draft" their rosters about 10 days prior to season.
- Players coveted by more than one coach will be assigned by consensus of remaining coaches and commissioner.
SR teams at the County level will be competitive within the following guidelines:
- Players of similar ability will be grouped together as a team.
- If more than one team at an age level, player assessments may be conducted.
- Assessments will include coaches.
- Skills assessed will include dribbling, passing, shooting, throwing, defense, and speed.
- Previous coaches assessment will be used if player can't attend assessment.
- If needed, assessments will be done yearly.
- If assessments are not conducted (but more than one team exists for an age group):
- The head coaches may select up to half of their roster. Head coaches in competitive divisions, AAYSA Division 1 or 2 and travel teams, may select their entire team.
- The head coach of the team playing in the higher division will have priority.
- The coordinator will work with the head coaches to place the remaining players. Known skill levels of the players, player's special requests, and contributions to the overall soccer program will be considered.
- Parents may request assignment to a lower level team.
- Carpooling considerations will be taken into consideration for team assignments (up to three players in a carpool).
- Spring county teams will take pooling of friends/neighbors into consideration.
- Teams will be assigned to divisions within the Anne Arundel Soccer League according to ability.
- New teams will be placed in the lowest division comparable to their level of play.
- All players will be given similar playing time (except with Commissioner and team parents approval).
