Soccer Moves Practice Suggestions
Practice I - Attack
- Lunge - Feint - Lean and Push
(Rummenigge)
- fake to one direction by leaning, dropping shoulder, and turning
- push off with leg to opposite direction and play ball with out side of foot
- Accelerate!
- Scissors
(Van Basten)
- slide foot nearest ball forward, across front, and around side of ball, then shift weight to that foot
- slide other foot behind then ball and then play ball with outside of that foot in opposite direction
- Accelerate!
- Step Over
(Rivelino)
- slide foot farthest from ball forward, across front, and around side of ball (crossing legs), then shift weight to that foot
- slide other foot behind then ball, and standing leg (uncrossing legs), then shift weight to that foot
- slide other foot behind then ball and then play ball with outside of that foot in opposite direction
- Accelerate!
- Drag - Flick (Stanley Matthews)
- with inside of foot, push ball slightly towards middle of body
- slide toe behind/under the ball and then play ball in opposite direction with outside of foot
- Accelerate!
- Games to Play
- Two lines, two goals: players dribble, shoot and score at one goal then move to defend opposite goal
Practice II - Change of Direction
- Inside Chop
- swing leg forward, outside ball
- turn knee and toe inward toward ball
- swing leg downward in chopping motion to move ball in new direction
- Outside Chop
- swing leg forward, inside ball
- turn knee and toe outward toward ball
- swing leg downward in chopping motion to move ball in new direction
- Stop, hop, and turn
- stop ball with sole of foot
- hop to a stop just beyond ball
- turn around quickly and take ball in opposite direction
- Pull back
- stop ball with sole of foot, maintaining contact
- pull ball backwards with sole of foot
- turn around quickly and take ball in opposite direction
- Games to Play
- Side to side to cones: start with four cones: two inner cones about 6yds apart, two outside cones two yards beyond each inner cone. One player with ball tries to stop ball between and inner and outer cone before defending player can touch cone same inner cone.
- Goals on two sides: place goals on opposite sides of area. Serve ball to offense from a third side of square. Offense tries to score ball. Defense starts on fourth side and tries to take ball from offense and score.
- Two goals on one sides: place goals along long side of rectangle. Serve ball into area from middle of the short side. Offense starts in corner of same short side and goal line. Defense starts on other corner on same short side. The defender must cross behind offense. Both players try to score goals.
Practice III - Fake change of direction
- Double Inside Chop
- swing leg forward, outside ball
- turn knee and toe inward toward ball
- swing leg downward in chopping motion to move ball in new direction
- repeat to move in original direction
- Double Outside Chop
- swing leg forward, inside ball
- turn knee and toe outward toward ball
- swing leg downward in chopping motion to move ball in new direction
- repeat to move in original direction
- Stop, hop, and turn with step over
- stop ball with sole of foot
- hop to a stop just beyond ball
- turn around quickly and take ball in opposite direction
