Thank you for your interest in South River Youth Athletics Wrestling
SRYA Wrestling
SRYA Wrestling is devoted to the development of wrestlers for both boys and girls from the ages of 6 - 15. While instructing the basic fundamentals of one of the oldest sports disciplines in the world, we also strive to build character through teaching each wrestler sportsmanship, responsibility, teamwork and dedication. We develop mental toughness through hard work that will help our wrestlers become champions both on and off the mat.
Why Wrestle?
Wrestling is a great sport because anybody can do it. Your child will wrestle people of the same weight. Size is not an issue as it may be in a sport like football or basketball. The sport of wrestling is a very natural thing for kids to do at a young age. Kids are always wrestling around in the yard or on the carpet in the house. Organized wrestling can bring in an element of safety and has a lot of other added benefits as well. Wrestling helps young people develop important qualities such as self-esteem, sportsmanship, work ethic and leadership skills. It also helps by instilling a competitive edge. Your will learn how to be competetive in wrestling because it is a unique one-on-one sport. Matches may last 3, 6, 7 and up to 9 minutes, but for that short amount of time, they are competing. It takes focus and concentration every second your child is out there.
Why SRYA Wrestling?
Fundamentals are the most crucial part of the game in wrestling. Everything you do, everything you achieve, can be traced back to the way you approached the fundamentals. The minute you get away from the fundamentals, whether it's proper technique, work ethic or mental preparation, the bottom can fall out of your game. As an organization, we keep this age old truth in mind. Every practice starts out the same, by going over the fundamentals.
