The South River Board of Directors awards four awards (2 male and 2 female) annually to deserving high school seniors who have participated in SRYA sports during their academic journey.  Here are this year's winners:

Female Winners

Our Female First Place Scholarship Winner is Grace Reinecker. Grace is a recent graduate of Archbishop Spalding High School and a proud SRYA lacrosse and field hockey alumni. Her commitment to service, leadership, and personal growth is evident through her involvement with numerous nonprofit organizations, including the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Travis Manion Foundation (TMF), and The Arc, which advocates for and supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

This fall, Grace will begin her studies at Villanova University, where she plans to pursue her goal of serving as an officer in the United States Navy. We are excited to see all she accomplishes in this next chapter.

Our Female Second Place Scholarship Winner is Kate McGee. A recent graduate of South River High School—Go Seahawks! Kate is a true SRYA alumna, having participated in softball, soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey. She has already demonstrated an impressive passion for science and service through her internships with the Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) and the Naval Medical Research Command, where she contributed to naval medical research initiatives.

This fall, Kate will attend Johns Hopkins University, where her energy, determination, and drive for excellence will undoubtedly continue to shine.

Male Winners

Our Male First Place Scholarship Winner is Spencer Gale. A recent graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Annapolis, Spencer is a dedicated SRYA football alumni who spent more than five years with the program. During his time with SRYA, he developed a strong appreciation for teamwork, accountability, and the importance of every individual contributing to a common goal. These valuable lessons have helped shape the person he is today and will serve him well as he begins his studies at Dickinson College this fall.

Our Male Second Place Scholarship Winner is Colby Sands. Colby recently graduated from South River High School (Go Seahawks!) and plans to attend Coastal Carolina University, where he will pursue a degree and future career in the sports industry. Athletics have played a significant role in Colby’s life, beginning with his years as an SRYA football player. Beyond the field, he has dedicated his time to serving others through volunteer work with the Special Olympics, Happy Helpers for the Homeless, and a local youth football camp. His commitment to both sports and community service makes him truly deserving of this recognition.

We are incredibly proud of all of our scholarship recipients and the accomplishments they have achieved both on and off the field.
